ZettaGeek’s Five Favorite Firefox Themes.

July 15, 2009

Howdy All!

Like most people, you probably enjoy tweaking and changing the look of your software. Firefox is no exception. I have gone through a bunch of Firefox themes, and picked my favorites. Here are my favorite five:

1. Aero Fox

Screenshot-3

This theme was modern, elegant, and works on Linux.

2. Mac OSX Theme

Screenshot-1

As I was going through themes to match my KDE window border, I found this theme. Surprisingly, its working without any issues in Linux and fits quite nicely.

3. iPox

Screenshot

Clean, modern style interface. “Easy on the eyes” was a statement 100% correct. Definitely worth trying out.

4. Smoke

Screenshot-5

Their is just something about a good theme. This one is “lite” and simple, yet still amazing. The whites and grays next to each other are absolutely stunning.

5. Rein

Screenshot-2

One of my favorite things about this theme is the dark gray behind the tabs. It fits in well with the overall feel of the theme

And there you have it! “ZettaGeek’s Five Favorite Firefox Themes”. If you know of a good theme that deserves recognition, just leave me a comment and let me know.

What I’ve Been Doing..

March 12, 2009

As you have probably noticed, I haven’t blogged in a while.  So I figured I would spend a little time explaining what I have been up to.  Mainly, I have been working on learning the Guitar, and as I have been learning, I’ve found some websites that have pretty good chords for common songs. Among one of my favorites is Guitar Chords For Hynms.

Guitar Photos

I also have been working on a few various Flash projects which include Free Vista. Free Vista is an educational project I have been working on to develop my skills with Adobe© Flash.

I have also been working on some various Blender projects which include a 3D model of We The People.

I think that’s about everything I have been working on. Well I take that back, I also have been working on my new ZettaGeek.net website, and trying ti finish writing all the tutorials.

Mandriva Linux

January 7, 2009

I really didn’t think I could find a distro of Linux I liked as much if not more then Ubuntu, but Mandriva surprised me. It had a very nice looking user interface and was pretty straight forward to install. One of my favorite things about Mandriva was its speed, both in booting and operating programs.

In Ubuntu, it would take about two minutes to boot. Mandriva boots in a little under a minute.

Other things I liked about Mandriva was how much I could do straight out of the box. Unlike Ubuntu, if I wanted to use desktop effects, I would have to install the X-server, and my Nvidia drivers. In Mandriva, my drivers were already installed and I was able to choose which compositing engine I wanted to use during the install process.

There were only a couple of  minor things about Mandriva Linux I didn’t like.

1. Perhaps it was supposed to be an artistic effect, but most of the backgrounds that came with Mandriva were blurry.

2. I could not find a Windows installer that would allow Windows veterans to easily install Mandriva like the Wubi Installer for Ubuntu.

Other then that, Mandriva has easilly surpassed my needs for a Desktop operating system.

October 30, 2008

Hey Everyone!

No, I am not dead, LOL. I have been extremely busy these last few days doing all kinds of random things. Some of which include a library system that I have been programming for my family’s mass collection of books. Here are a few screen shots to show you how its coming along:

Lets just say, its a work in progress. So far we only have a small amount of our books, (131 to be exact) entered into our database. The system is written using a combination of HTML, ASPVisual Basic, and Blender for the graphics. Hopefully, I will have all the kinks worked out of the system soon.

As for other news, the WI-FI piece on my computer has been acting very strange lately. At first I suspected bad drivers, but I think the card itself may be on the way out ;-) . I guess I am going to have to get under the house and run an ethernet line back to my bedroom. :-D .

I must say, this last month has been a blast. We have had three family birthdays this month. The first was my Brother Jacob, he is now 13. The second was my sister Emma’s, she is now 3. And the last one will be tomorrow when my sister Jessica, turns 11.

One last thing. I always appricate reading and responding to emails from my readers. So if you have anything you would like to tell me, you can email me at zettageek@rocketmail.com.

Backups & Box.Net

September 18, 2008

Today, I decided to backup the important data on my hard drive. After losing so much data when my second one broke, I figured it might be a good idea to start keeping backups of my data.

Now to make backups, you have to have a place to put backups… I did not really want to trust another old hard drive, or a thumb drive or anything like a CD or DVD that could break. Whats the answer? Online storage space. Now a quick Google search for “Free Online Storage Space” comes up with literally, millions of results. Most of which, aren’t even free :-D .

After searching for a while, I found Box.Net. I must say, for free online storage space, this is a pretty nice service. Now since its free, you are most likely assuming it has its limitations. It does. Things like, you can only upload files that are under 10 MB. Or other problems, like the fact that you only have 1 GB of storage.

So anyway, I decided to put the service to the test. First, I zipped all my ZettaGeek.net related files, About 160 MB’s in files, into a split zip file, each part of the zip file was 9 MB. Then I uploaded the parts of the Zip file to Box.Net.

It took about 10 minutes to upload everything, but overall I was quite impressed. So now, I just need to figure out what to do with the other 800 MB’s.

At The Art Show

August 21, 2008

This last weekend, I went to an art show with my Sister and Grandmother. My sister, Courtney, wrote a journal for the day and took pictures as well. Enjoy!

“On Friday afternoon, Joshua and I left to spend the night at my Grandmother’s, to prepare for an art show the very next day.

We left our home, and ran a few errands to pick up some last minute items, then we went for dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant:

These are some really neat metal statues outside the restaurant:

Here is Joshua standing beside one of them:

A view from my seat:

Their iced tea is the best!!

After a yummy faijita and some awesome corn chips with hot cheese sauce

it was time to go back to the interstate to go on to her home.

We passed the Birmingham International Airport:

Finally, we arrived at her house. After unpacking everything, we went to bed.

But, the morning started early, and we were all up by 4:30.

We loaded back up the car:

And went on our way.

We stopped for a breakfast sandwich:

and headed to Odenville.

We arrived just in time to set up!

Here is Joshua setting up our tent:

The tent all set up:

Once we set everything up, we looked around the park that the art show was at. Here are some various pictures:

This is the first time that I have ever seen a cattail!

What?!?!?

It was soon time for lunch.

Joshua enjoying some bottled water:

Some of our crafts for the show:

Do you remember the quilts? :)

Later on, we just enjoyed the afternoon as people walked through.

Joshua catching a quick read:

At 4:00, it was time to pack up.

Watch this! We can pack it up in 3 easy steps:

1!

2!

3!

See! It was easy! ;)

Time to go home.

We took a slightly different route, and saw many cows:

Back on the interstate:

This is what the sky looked like when we were almost home:

It was a fun day. Thanks for joining me!”

A Question..

August 1, 2008

Alright, I have a question for you, my readers. As you may already know I have two hard drives in my computer. One is a 30.00 GB hard drive, and the other is a 40 GB. About a month ago I noticed I could not boot to Ubuntu. So I boot to windows, and notice it no longer sees my 40.00 GB hard drive. Whats odd though, is it sees it in the BIOS.

My system specs are:

AMD Sempron 1.6 GHZ
Hard drive (C:) 30.00 GB
Hard drive (D:) 40.00 GB
CD drive (E:)
CD drive (F:)
512 MB Ram
nVidea GeForce 2 TI
Belkin WIRELESS G Internal Internet Card

Any help would be awesome.
